Meraki MG51 5G Router Gateway UK

Meraki MG51 5G Cat 20 Cellular Gateway

The Meraki MG51 5G Cat 20 Cellular Gateway simplifies the path to wireless WAN connectivity over 5G and makes cellular a viable primary uplink option for many networks, bypassing the necessity for wired circuits. The MG51 acts as a gateway to the internet cellular networks by converting 5G and LTE signal from a cellular provider to an Ethernet handoff, which can be used as an internet uplink for a variety of use-cases.

Meraki MG cellular gateways transpose a cellular signal into wired WAN Ethernet connectivity, enabling high-speed, always-on cellular network connectivity for business-critical operations. Networking teams use MG gateways to connect branch and campus networks in the simplest manner. Part of a modern SD-WAN architecture requiring strong security and reliable performance, MG cellular gateways combine with MX security and SD-WAN appliances to secure users and infrastructure while maintaining optimal network performance.

Meraki MG51 Use Cases

Note that the following use-cases refer to using a Meraki MX appliance with the MG51 as a WAN uplink. However, the use-cases can also apply to non-Meraki devices.

  • Antenna placement where cellular coverage is best
Signal strength is key for cellular performance. The MG51 makes cellular a viable option in situations where high bandwidth or throughput is needed or locations where the MX is not necessarily the best location for a strong cellular signal. The separation of cellular antenna and MX expands cellular options for all networks, particularly for mid-range MXs mounted in a data centre. The 4 x 4 DL MIMO is capable of supporting deployments that demands higher throughput capacity.
  • Primary WAN
In areas where wired internet services are not available or wired connectivity takes too long or expensive, the MG51 provides a simple, viable option for wireless WAN connectivity.
  • Secondary WAN for Failover
An MX’s primary or secondary WAN interface connected to an MG51 may use the cellular network for both primary and secondary uplinks.
  • Primary/Secondary WAN for SD-WAN
An MX with an MG51 as a primary and/or secondary WAN uplink may use the cellular network to establish VPNs for SD-WAN.
  • High Availability Uplink
The MG51 can be used as either a primary or secondary internet uplink for MX HA topologies. Its two (2) LAN ports allow the MXs to share access to the same cellular network.

Meraki MG51 and MG51E 5G Gateways

Quick and easy to deploy

Get cellular connectivity up and running quickly with true zero-touch provisioning. Ensure your device has the latest firmware with schedulable or automatic updates. The MG51 can instantly provision primary cellular connectivity across thousands of sites at once without waiting on broadband or any change in infrastructure, enabling faster business expansion.

Centrally manage at scale

The MG51 is 100% cloud managed through the Meraki platform. This means managing, architecting, and scaling organisations’ networks can be done remotely, making the MG51 ideal for distributed branches, campuses, or data centre locations. Easily add the MG51 to your existing Meraki SD-WAN with ease. Deploy, provision, view, and manage all of your Meraki devices in a single platform view.

Super-fast 5G-powered SD-WAN

With up to multi-gigabit-level cellular connectivity, businesses can rely on the MG51 for a consistent experience 24/7/365 to increase business uptime and network resilience. The MG51 allows businesses to confidently deploy fixed wireless access (FWA) at sites where there’s no broadband coverage, the carrier coverage is initially unknown, or there’s a varying level of availability and network reliability from multiple regional carriers.

The best way to connect to 5G

A network is only as good as its infrastructure, and the MG51 integrates deeply with the rest of the Meraki stack to provide cellular WAN connectivity to your network.

Self-configuring for primary or backup cellular

If a certified carrier SIM card is inserted, the MG51 cellular gateway will bring up the cellular connection and automatically connect to the Meraki cloud, download its configuration, and join your network. Moreover, the MG51 is capable of powering your entire network. Designed for optimal performance with an integrated cellular modem, the MG51 is your reliable cellular gateway to primary or secondary WAN connectivity.

An alternative to wired connection

Connectivity is critical for any organisation that depends on reliable internet access in order to function. Wireless WAN connectivity options, such as cellular networks used to serve as a reliable backup internet uplink in the event of a primary uplink failure. However, with 5G providing wired like speeds, the MG51 provides an alternative to wired connection, providing same day connectivity and simpler management via the Meraki dashboard.

Works with any routing or switching device

The MG51 can work with any routing or switching device, Meraki or non-Meraki. With additional 802.3at compatibility, the MG51 can be placed anywhere and powered via power over ethernet (PoE) like any access point. This gives users the option for optimal physical placement for signal quality – a cornerstone for wireless WAN communications.

Meraki Cloud Management

Meraki’s award-winning cloud-management architecture unifies LAN and management under a web-based dashboard and scales easily from small to large multi-site deployments with tens of thousands of devices. The Meraki dashboard provides intuitive yet powerful role-based administration, firmware updates, configuration changes, email alerts, and easy-to-audit change logs
